Literacy Micro-Credentials
Created in partnership with the Florida Department of Education and the Division of Early Learning, the Lastinger Learning’s Literacy Micro-Credentials are available at no cost to Florida instructional personnel in an effort to create accessible and on-demand reading professional development. They give instructional personnel an opportunity to work at their own pace while implementing new instructional strategies in real-time and receiving individualized feedback and one-on-one support from a navigator.
Through a hybrid model that combines asynchronous, online modules, personalized navigator support with individualized assignment feedback, and a skill-based practicum, this professional learning series equips birth to 12th grade instructional personnel to identify literacy difficulties and determine appropriate interventions, apply evidence-based practices, and effectively use progress monitoring and intervention materials.
Instructional personnel may only enroll in and earn one of the three Literacy Micro-Credentials.
Birth through Pre-Kindergarten
Emergent Literacy Micro-Credential
Audience: Birth through pre-kindergarten early child care personnel (public or private)
Benefits:
- Builds emergent literacy knowledge and skills with high-quality content
- Supports language and literacy requirements for the CDA© professional portfolio
- Satisfies the 40-hour reading requirement for renewal for certified Florida educators, if completed after 10/21/24
Expected Completion Time: 14 weeks
Pre-Kindergarten through Fifth Grade
Elementary Literacy Micro-Credential
Audience: Pre-kindergarten/kindergarten through fifth grade instructional personnel (public schools, including charters)
Benefits:
- Allows instructional personnel to teach intensive reading intervention
- Satisfies Competency 1 of the Reading Endorsement
- Satisfies the 40-hour reading requirement for renewal
Expected Completion Time: 11 weeks
Sixth through 12th Grade
Secondary Literacy Micro-Credential
Audience: Sixth through 12th grade instructional personnel
Benefits:
- Allows instructional personnel to teach intensive reading intervention
- Satisfies Competency 1 of the Reading Endorsement
- Satisfies the 40-hour reading requirement for renewal
Expected Completion Time: 11 weeks
