Math Language Routine 4
Information Gap
Purpose: To create a need for students to communicate. (Zwiers et al., 2017, p.13)
Gamify mathematical vocabulary.
Say My Name
Provide cards with mathematical terms, symbols or pictures. One student picks a card and holds it up without looking at it. The other students give clues and describe the term until the first student guesses it correctly.
Animated Explainer Video
Get the gist fast. Watch a quick overview of what the instructional resource is and why it matters.

Implementation Guides
Download a one-page guide tailored to your grade brand with practical classroom applications.
Exemplar Video
See it in action. Watch real teachers using the instructional resources with students.

Facilitation Guide
Go deeper with key questions, tips and guidance for effective implementation.
Sometimes being wrong is actually the right way forward.
Wrong Two Ways
For any numerical task, ask students to provide two answers that are clearly incorrect (too large, too small) and an estimate that is pretty close. Have them explain the reasoning behind each response.
