Science of Reading Professional Learning for Secondary Educators

Grounded in over 40 years of research, this three-day professional learning experience equips secondary educators with practical, evidence-based strategies to strengthen literacy and writing instruction for adolescent learners. Designed for grades 6–12, this program helps educators address vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, writing and advanced word study across content areas.

Program Overview

This program engages participants in hands-on learning with classroom-ready instructional routines and tools that can be implemented within any curriculum and adapted for Tier 1 core instruction, targeted intervention and more intensive supports. The experience also addresses instructional considerations for English learners, students with persistent literacy difficulties and the use of assessment data to guide instruction.

Participants explore how reading develops, why some students struggle, and how to apply evidence-based practices to support adolescent readers in middle and high school settings as they work with complex texts aligned to Florida’s B.E.S.T. Standards.
