Science of Reading Professional Learning

The UF Lastinger Center for Learning’s Science of Reading Professional Learning is designed to help teachers translate reading research and theory into instructional practice. It equips participants with the literacy knowledge and pedagogy required to effectively diagnose and address the individual learning needs of students who are striving to become successful readers.

Program Overview

The Science of Reading Professional Learning program includes five highly interactive, full-day live sessions and can be completed in as little as one week.

This program equips participants to:

Strengthen students’ language and literacy development through high-quality interactions
Implement evidence-based strategies across all areas of reading and writing instruction
Identify students with greater literacy needs and intensify instruction based on best practices
Analyze and use assessment data to inform and adapt your teaching
Build a strong foundation in the science of reading to support learners from early childhood through high school

Timeline

The timeline for completion can be customized to fit partner needs. The content consists of five, 5-hour sessions that can be scheduled around partners’ existing professional learning calendars.

Components

Five full-day, highly interactive professional learning sessions, each focused on a key domain of reading development.
Access to six digital literacy playbooks that contain research-based presentations, model lessons, handouts, observation tools, and strategies to support diverse learners.
Final evaluation report summarizing the results of the professional learning, including pre- and post-assessment of participants.
Ongoing communication with the Lastinger Center staff.
