Program Overview
Literacy Lab is a hands-on professional learning experience that helps educators connect assessment, instructional planning, and evidence-based literacy practices to meet the needs of every learner. Participants learn how to align instruction across tiers of support so students experience cohesive, responsive literacy instruction throughout the school day. Designed to address 10 Florida Reading Endorsement (FRE) competencies and complement any state-approved curriculum, Literacy Lab provides practical strategies and classroom routines that strengthen instructional decision-making and improve reading outcomes.
Educators will:
- Practice applying their learning using Florida B.E.S.T. sample texts
- Connect data to purposeful instructional decisions
- Align whole-group instruction, targeted small-group support and intensive intervention to meet students’ literacy needs
- Strengthen evidence-based literacy practices grounded in the Science of Reading
- Practice applying their learning using Florida B.E.S.T. sample texts

Components
Participants receive a Literacy Lab Educator Bag, participant handbook, and a comprehensive professional learning experience that includes:
Three days of professional learning
- Day 1: Using assessment data to strengthen instructional problem-solving and align tiered literacy supports grounded in the science of effective instruction
- Day 2: Evidence-based word reading and fluency instruction that moves students from effortful decoding towards understanding what they read
- Day 3: Evidence-based vocabulary, comprehension, and writing instruction, with data analysis to refine Tier 1 teaching and improve intervention and assessment systems
Five on-site, job-embedded coaching visits
Support classroom implementation through observation, feedback, collaborative planning, and refinement of instructional practices.
Two virtual professional learning sessions
Reflect on implementation, address challenges, and extend learning with continued collaboration and support.
