Science of Reading Professional Learning for Early Childhood Educators

The UF Lastinger Center’s Early Literacy Foundations Program is designed to ensure that early literacy instruction is consistently aligned with the Sciences of Child Development, Science of Reading, and emergent literacy standards so that students are ready to launch into kindergarten with the literacy skills they need to become skilled readers.

Program Overview

The Early Literacy Foundations Program program prepares educators to strengthen the quality and consistency of oral language and literacy instruction in early childhood settings.

Participants gain:

  • Foundational literacy knowledge
  • Practical, evidence-based strategies
  • Tools to support intentional data-based instruction

This program focuses on the core core domains of early reading development:

  • Oral language
  • Alphabet knowledge
  • Print awareness
  • Phonological awareness
  • Emergent reading and writing

Eligible Participants

This program is designed for preschool educators serving children ages three through five.

Components

  • Three, 5-hour face-to-face sessions 
  • Optional 5-hour, on-site support visit
  • Final evaluation report summarizing the results of the professional learning

Timeline

This program timeline can be customized to fit partner needs. The three face-to-face sessions can be scheduled around partners’ existing calendars.
